Nava Dance- Level 2- Choreography
Welcome to a very special and long awaited choreography course which is offered exclusively to students who have fully completed the Nava Dance level 1 course. In this course students can apply all of the technique and Nava Dance format learned in level 1 to full length choreographies. Each choreography is taught in a very methodical way, section by section also with comprehensive warm ups, background about the dance, music notes and also live performance footage of each dance is included. These choreographies have been performed around the world by Nava Dance Collective in California, Spain, Italy, Israel-Palestine, and beyond.
There are six signature Nava Dance Collective choreographies included- "Panjareh Baz Mishavad," a lively dance to a popular Persian song by Sheida Jahed about Spring and Nowruz (Persian New Year,) "Zolfaye Yarom," an upbeat dance to a traditional Shirazi song by Sima Bina, "Liberation," a powerful dance reflecting the poetry of Omar Khayyam sung by Homayoun Shajarian, "Me'eraj Darvishan," (ascension of the dervishes,) a piece about finding spiritual ascension through the power of the collective (music composed by Hossein Alizadeh,) "Haraee," a playful and powerful dance that challenges dancers musicality, and finally "Falak," (heaven/destiny/fate) which is a danced with the daf (Persian frame drum) echoing the movement of the sun, moon, stars and cosmos. Along with learning these dynamic choreographies is the potential to acquire a whole new dance vocabulary, choreographic tools, short sections to inspire new choreographies and lots of great notes on musicality!
Students who purchase this course are able to learn the choreography, and if desired adapt to perform as a soloist. Students can also perform with small groups or in a company, however Miriam kindly requests that for company performances she would appreciate being notified and in some specific situations additional compensation may be kindly requested. She is also happy to work via zoom with any company to fine tune choreography for performance. Miriam does not give permission to teach the choreographies in open classes or workshop settings. (This may change once the Nava Dance teachers training releases.) There is also always an opportunity to join Nava Dance Collective for a performance at some point! Students are encouraged to reach out to Miriam with any questions at any point in time! [email protected]
Please only register for this course if you have completed level 1. If you register and have not finished level 1 you will be re-directed to complete level 1 first.
Happy Dancing!!
With Love & Gratitude,
Miriam
Your Instructor
Miriam Peretz is an internationally celebrated dance instructor and performer. Over the past twenty years, her signature dance style has spread across continents through her international dance collective Nava, and through the intensive trainings she offers worldwide. Miriam’s format draws heavily on sacred dance and ritual from around the world, Central Asian dance and devotional whirling practices. Her movement quality and aesthetics also incorporate her years of martial arts training, contemporary dance, Flamenco, and many other world dance forms. Miriam weaves spirituality and devotion into every dance session, drawing on her personal practice as a dervish and background as a child of mystics. Her classes are infused with group rituals that help students find the deeper meaning and significance of the movements and dances. The rituals also nurture a sense of inclusivity and community, often creating deep connections among dancers. Regarded as a weekly ritual by her students, Miriam’s classes offer a fully integrated experience and healing journey through the terrain of the body, heart, mind and spirit.
